Rebecca Aston

Rebecca is a creative technologist and practicing artist who works with a range of time-based media. As a lecturer in computational art, her teaching is informed by industry experience, as well as a personal fine arts studio practice which is grounded in the traditions of painting and new media art.

Her primary artistic output takes the form of interactive or immersive art works, such as installations and Virtual Reality experiences. Her work engages with the idea of the human inside the loop of technological systems. She uses frameworks such as extended mind theory to think about how technology/tools and humans are conjoined by embodied perception. Vision, as part of a larger sensory system, remains a primary research interest owing to a formal training in painting. Other engagements with time-based media within her portfolio of work include interactive non-linear narratives and performance/poetics.
